Girls Night The Reunion at Stantonbury Campus Theatre is a joyous and heartwarming sequel to Louise Roche’s smash-hit Girls Night, which first took to the stage at Madcap Theatre 25 years ago before becoming an international success. The original show followed five lifelong friends on a wild karaoke night out, packed with laughter, fights, and belting out anthems like It’s Raining Men and Dancing Queen. One of the five, Sharon, had tragically died as a teenager but stuck around as an angel, watching over her friends and keeping the chaos in check.
Now, Girls Night The Reunion picks up the story 25 years later, and while the characters may have swapped stilettos for comfy shoes and shots for cups of tea (well, mostly), their bond remains as strong as ever. Anita (Alexandra Kent), Carol (Amanda Booth), Liza (Jessica Hodge), and Kate (Debbie Leonard) are still navigating life together, but now they’re facing new challenges—hot flushes, grown-up children, failed marriages, and everything that comes with middle age. Yet, through it all, they still sing, dance, and support one another, proving that some friendships truly do last a lifetime.
Nancy Randle shines as Sharon, the ever-present angel of the group, watching over her friends with a mixture of affection and exasperation. Her rendition of True Colours was breathtaking, bringing an emotional depth to the show that had the audience spellbound. It was one of many standout musical moments in a production that delivers a perfect blend of nostalgia, humour, and heartfelt storytelling.
One of the most remarkable things about this production is how much it retains the raw, infectious energy of the original show. From the moment the lights went down, the atmosphere in the theatre was electric, with the audience fully immersed—laughing, singing along, and cheering their way through the night. By the final number, the entire theatre was on its feet, giving the cast a well-deserved standing ovation.
Given the legacy of Girls Night, it’s no surprise that American producers are already showing interest in this new instalment. The original became a huge success worldwide, playing everywhere from the UK and Ireland to South Korea, New Zealand, Canada, and Germany, before making its way to the USA in 2007. It opened off-Broadway in 2008, where it has been running continuously ever since.
With its mix of sharp comedy, relatable characters, and feel-good music, Girls Night The Reunion is destined to follow in its predecessor’s footsteps. This is a must-see show, full of laughter, warmth, and a reminder that no matter what life throws at you, true friendships—and a good singalong—can see you through anything. Catch it now while you can!
