Man, 41, jailed for sharing indecent images of children

A 41-year-old man has been jailed for two years and two months after he was caught sharing indecent images of children online.

On August 5, 2021, a man was on Kik messenger with intentions to share indecent images. However one user he chose to send a Category A image to, the most serious, was an undercover police officer.

The account in question was traced back to an address in Far Cotton, Northampton, and it was found to be Thomas Scott Brews, previously of Northampton, who had shared it.

He was arrested and subsequently charged with distributing an indecent image of a child.

He pleaded guilty to the offence and last week (April 4), was sentenced to two years and two months in prison. He was also handed a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Lead Investigator - DC Gareth Carter, said: “People like Thomas Brews sometimes think that sharing indecent images of children is a victimless crime. However, the children in the images have suffered immensely in order to satisfy people like him, and this is something our team are determined to tackle.

“I am pleased to see Thomas Brews sent to prison for this offence and I hope it also shows the proactivity with which we treat sex crimes against children. We will not just sit and wait for cases but we will deploy undercover officers to catch these predators in the act and then work to bring them to justice.”
