Tackling robbery – it’s a #MatterOfPriority

It’s Northamptonshire Police’s eighth #MatterOfPriority week of action and this time, the spotlight is shining on serious violence with a focus on tackling robbery.

Led by Detective Chief Inspector Andy Rogers, the week will once again be a mixture of enforcement activity, prevention work and community engagement.

Detective Chief Inspector Rogers, said: “As previously mentioned by my colleagues during this twelve-week surge, serious violence is one of the Force’s four priorities and this week I will be doing as much as I can to enforce against offenders as well as engage with those on the periphery of crime to try and divert them onto a different path.” 

During the week of action, various enforcement operations are planned as well as more preventative work including members of CIRV coming to Custody to engage with young offenders, speaking to some of the young people who are regularly reported missing to see what support we can put in place for them in conjunction with partner agencies, knife arches, community engagement events and the beat bus on patrol.

Voluntary drug testing will also be made available in Custody and support will be offered to those who test positive.

DCI Rogers continued: “During this week, I will also be focusing specifically on robbery as, although numbers in the county remain low, robbery is an incredible traumatic experience for victims and therefore something we want to improve on over the next year.”

This week is the eighth in a twelve-week surge to tackle Northamptonshire Police’s four matters of priority - violence against women and girls, drug harm, serious and organised crime and serious violence.
