Murder On The Orient Express

Murder on the Orient Express at Milton Keynes Theatre is a stylish, suspenseful, and expertly staged production that keeps the audience engaged from start to finish. Ken Ludwig’s adaptation of Agatha Christie’s classic whodunnit delivers all the intrigue, drama, and twists you’d expect, with a finale that still surprises—especially for those unfamiliar with the story.

Michael Maloney leads the cast as the meticulous and charismatic Hercule Poirot, bringing both humour and intensity to the role. Bob Barrett’s affable Monsieur Bouc and Simon Cotton’s menacing Samuel Ratchett are among the standout performances, while the rest of the ensemble add depth and layers of suspicion to the unfolding mystery.

The staging is nothing short of spectacular. A revolving set featuring a life-size train carriage opens up into different sections, rooms, and corridors, creating the immersive feeling of being on board the Orient Express without ever feeling restricted or claustrophobic. The clever design ensures smooth transitions and a cinematic quality, making it as visually engaging as it is narratively gripping.

While some of the accents wavered at times, the production’s atmospheric direction, striking visuals, and sharp pacing more than made up for it. The tension builds beautifully, keeping the audience guessing until the final reveal.

For fans of the genre, this is a must-see—especially if you don’t already know the ending. A stylish and thrilling theatrical experience that brings Christie’s masterpiece to life with flair.
